Are you searching for LASIK surgeons in Dallas, Plano, Arlington, Fort Worth and surrounding areas? Our LASIK Dallas-area eye surgeons have helped tens of thousands of patients enjoy improved vision after Blade-Free HD IntraLASIK.
LASIK eye surgery has become a very popular choice for correcting vision issues due to the quick recovery it provides and because our laser eye surgeons are able to treat nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism.
How Blade-Free HD IntraLASIK Works
Whether you have nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism, your cornea (the surface of your eye) is not focusing light appropriately onto your retina. This causes blurred vision. Our LASIK surgeons use a laser to correct the focal point of your cornea by reshaping the corneal surface. The end result is clear vision.
If you are nearsighted: The corneal surface is too steep. Eye surgeons use excimer laser remove tissue from the central area of the cornea to correct the focus.
If you are farsighted: The corneal surface is too flat. Eye surgeons use the excimer laser to remove tissue from to periphery of your corneal surface to correct focus.
If you have astigmatism: The corneal surface is more oblong than spherical, like a football compared to a basketball. A LASIK surgeon uses the excimer laser to remove the multiple focal points that are present with astigmatism, and we create one focal point to correct focus. (Any astigmatism can be treated alongside procedures for nearsightedness or farsightedness)
LASIK – The Permanent Change
During the LASIK procedure, your eyes are permanently changed. LASIK cannot ‘wear off’ over time.
That said, your eyes can still change internally. Because of this, many eye surgeons recommend the LASIK procedure following any major eyes changes that can occur in early stages of life. For example, LASIK is not an ideal procedure for children due to the fact that their eyes go through developmental changes as they grow. LASIK for children would require fine-tuning very shortly after the procedure.
In contrast, LASIK performed on patients over the age of 18 has a much greater chance of establishing a long-term, stabilized correction. Even adult’s eyes can change over time, so we suggest an in-depth discussion with your doctor to review the changes you are experiencing in your vision. This will help you as you decide whether LASIK is right for you now or perhaps sometime in the future.
It’s also important to note that even if changes do occur, the correction can be modified with procedures called ‘enhancements’ if necessary.
Blade-Free HD IntraLASIK generally offers a rapid visual recovery. Many patients are able to achieve notably improved vision the day following their procedures, and they often report their eyes feel close to normal within a day. Typically, vision continues to improve in following days and weeks. Best corrected vision is often achieved within 2-3 months.
Patients can resume most daily activities virtually immediately following the LASIK procedure. Your LASIK surgeon may recommend you wear safety glasses for at least one month following the procedure. Also, swimming and contact sports should be avoided for 3-4 weeks. During your consultation, speak with your physician about any restrictions after your procedure since each case is unique.
Most patients who undergo Blade-Free HD IntraLASIK don’t require corrective lenses for their daily tasks, although some over-40 patients may require reading glasses due to presbyopia, or over-40 vision. This is part of the natural aging process of the lens of the eye, which occurs regardless of LASIK. Due to presbyopia, some patients require a minor prescription for certain activities like night driving, even following LASIK.
Patients in their 40s may choose a procedure called “monovision” to combat the effects of prebyopia. Monovision allows patients to use one eye for distance vision and the other eye for near vision. This works very well for some patients, but others aren’t as comfortable with it. Our eye surgeons are happy to discuss all options for your unique eyes, and we’ll work with you to choose the right procedure that best fits your needs and lifestyle.
